Phil is one of a kind! His work ethic, kindness, respect, and humble servant leadership set him apart!
-Judy, school district administrator
Many of us at Keith Elementary and Walled Lake Schools had the privilege of witnessing Dr. Phil in action: leading staff meetings with vision, humor and compassion; conversing and dialoguing with students and staff while exhibiting interest, engagement, and respect; guiding others in discovering the richness of literature and text through creative use of questioning and mindful dialogue; modeling for staff and students how to work through tough conversations and issues; encouraging us to make thinking visible and to further develop a growth mindset professionally and personally; highlighting and celebrating the positive qualities and skills in all people; composing encouraging words with profound meaning and explicitness; sharing stories, emotions and feelings; and ALWAYS being a colleague, mentor, and friend that you can count on. Phil instilled a 212-degree vision in all of us. His one extra degree—his effort, care, and attention in all the ways he operates—continue to impact our educational community, influence our educational belief systems, and create extraordinary results!
-Mark, elementary school teacher
Phil, as I started to reflect about the deep connection we all have to you and to each other, I began to realize it is all based on a foundation of exemplary leadership. This quote from Woodrow Wilson fits Phil to a tee: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, and do more, you are a leader.” Under Phil’s leadership we were constantly inspired to dream big and reach new heights in our own learning, making Keith Elementary the best place to be. You led by example. Your genuine love of the Keith Community was evident in every high five, every student-centered discussion, every hug, and every tear. And, let’s face it, the Pittman storytelling was pretty great, too. Phil, I speak for all of us when I say that we love you, we are are incredibly proud of you, and we can’t wait to see what you do next as you stand on the shoulders of giants and continue to change the world.
-Lisa, elementary school teacher
For people who know Phil, there is something that makes him stand out, that makes us gravitate to him, that makes us laugh, that makes us travel across the country to see him, that makes us proud to call him our friend. Many people in this world strive for success in terms of mind, body, and spirit. The majority of us tend to give in or give up, but not Phil. Through the years I have witnessed him strive for greatness, reaching and exceeding goals, one by one—with fitness, sports, academics, family, career. When each challenge is conquered, Phil sets his eyes on the next. When one mountain peak is climbed, he strives for the next. One thing I know to be true is that Phil can achieve anything he puts his mind, body, sweat, and tears into!
-Heidi, non-profit manager of recruitment
Phil, I just wanted to name and notice what I saw you do brilliantly today. You lead strongly and with grace. Wow. You shifted the conversation from the potholes and lifted it to production. You seemed to enjoy steering the ship while balancing that with room for others to contribute and make meaning. Thanks for you contributions!
-Sheryl, high school teacher
Thank you for being the type of educator who not only inspires his students, but also his fellow colleagues.
-Kristen, high school teacher
Dr. Pittman, I know it’s been awhile, but you’re still the best English teacher I’ve ever had. Thank you for helping me get a job as my cover letters kick butt (or so I’ve been told, haha).
-Catherine, strategy and operations manager

Everything was wonderful, from the opening comments, to the printed program, to the slides, to the readings, to the dramatic presentation, to the discussion and to the closing. You really made North look great! Your insights, efforts, and passion carried the day! Again, thanks for all you do.

-Vita, school district administrator
Phil, I can’t thank you enough for the wonderful experience I had through my internship with you. Your sense of humor, of course, made each day fun, but I was extremely luck to have a mentor with not only such a high level of expertise, but also a genuine respect for each person he works with. I also appreciate the support you gave me in finding my own way and unleashing my professional passions. I still have more to work on, but I feel good about my strengths, and confident that, with an awareness of my challenges, I can continue to improve. I hope you will think of me whenever someone gets pink eye, demonstrates a ridiculous talent, or lets out the “language dark within.”
-Pat, educator
Thank you all for coming to present to the special education team. We have students and families who are in need of services that you provide. In fact, we have several students in your system right now and have you down as a resource for other parents in need of mental health support. Again, thank you.
